Meestal valt Asalha Puja in juli.

-Loy Krathong: during the last week of October and the first three weeks of November. Flower arrangements with a candle, incense sticks and some coins are launched on a specially constructed pond as a ritual. The Krathongs are homemade or can be bought at one of the stalls at the temple. This event is introduced by a Buddhist ceremony in which the monks chant (recite texts) and offer blessings to the people. After the ceremony and the launching of the khratongs, there is food, traditional dance and music.

-Asalha Puja: one of the three most important days of commemoration in Buddhism. It commemorates the first sermon Gautama Buddha gave to the first 5 disciples in Sarnath, India. Usually Asalha Puja falls in July. It is the day of the Dhamma, because it commemorates the day the Buddha started teaching the Dhamma (the Teaching). In Buddhist countries, it is one of the most important religious days as well as a bank holiday. Lay people give gifts to Buddhist temples or to the Sangha and sermons are delivered. The day after Asalha Puja is the start of vassa, the annual three-month rain retreat for Buddhist monks.

-Kathina: the one-month period when the Buddhist laity offer robes to the bhikkhus who have spent the rainy season (the vassa) together in a monastery. It is an important festival in Theravada Buddhist countries such as Thailand, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. Many lay people go to a temple a few times a week during the Kathina season (October or November) to participate in the activities or to listen to the Dhamma. Often, speeches on Buddhism are given in the temple the evening before the Kathina. The rugs that can be offered to the monks can be bought in the temple itself and the purchase serves as a donation to the temple.

-Vesakha Puja is one of the three most important Buddhist holidays. On this day, Buddhists commemorate the birth, enlightenment and parinibbana (passing away) of Gautama Buddha. It takes place in April, May or June, and is a bank holiday in Buddhist countries of all denominations. Special sermons or speeches are held, and the laity often devote attention to preparing a suitable gift dedicated to the Buddha or the Sangha. In the history of Sri Lanka, important solemn events, such as the coronation of a king, often took place on Vesakha Puja.

-Magha Puja is the day when the Buddha first addressed the Sangha as a whole in a formal way, giving guidelines for spreading his teachings. This day is dedicated to the commemoration of the Sangha, the disciples of the Buddha who have attained enlightenment. There are special Dhamma speeches, and Buddhist laypeople flock to Buddhist temples to listen to these speeches and give donations.

👍On these Thai Buddhist holidays and celebrations, other monks from other temples in Belgium and Thailand are also present. Besides Buddhist ceremonies, everyone can also experience Thai culture through Thai food, Thai traditional music and dance. During these large festivities a large tent is erected behind the temple to provide enough space for the many visitors.
